Chelsea have slapped a €50m (£44m) price tag on Liverpool target Conor Gallagher, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The 23-year-old is one of a number of midfielders that the Reds are looking at ahead of the summer transfer window but, if he can’t be signed for a lower fee, fans on Twitter would prefer the Merseysiders look elsewhere:
madness!

Hard pass. I’d sooner buy 3 Brazilian or Argentinian prospects and hope one of them hits.

Not for me. A decent player but not in comparison to our other targets

We should be running away from this deal at this price let alone doing it for any lower price.

£50m. Sure that’s a misprint and should say £5m.

Everton reportedly had a £40m (plus £5m in add-ons) bid rejected for Gallagher in January so Plettenberg is probably being a bit conservative with his valuation.
With that being the case, you can’t see Liverpool making a move for the England international. Manager Jurgen Klopp is likely to be a fan of his work rate and energy, but there are better players on the market for a similar or lower price.
The Reds do have to keep their homegrown quota in mind but overpaying for someone like Gallagher wouldn’t be the wisest move.
