Michael Owen Makes His Prediction As Liverpool Take On Manchester United

Former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen is expecting a draw when the two sides face each other at Anfield on Sunday evening.

The hype around the top of the table clash has been building for a number of days, but Owen thinks both sets of fans will have to be satisfied with a stalemate this weekend:

“Liverpool’s mighty home record stands at 67 games unbeaten in the Premier League and Jurgen Klopp will be trying to treat this one as just another game in their quest for back to back Premier League titles. However, everyone involved at the club, especially the fans, will be hoping upon hope that when the time comes for that record run to end, it won’t be at the hands of United.”

“Personally, I don’t see that run ending here although I do think it will be tight. Both teams love to play counter-attacking football so I think this one could be a case of cat and mouse. I think both sides are likely to give up some territory so they can execute their counters-attacks and if this materialises, I reckon we could be in for a stalemate at Anfield.”

Owen has gone for a 0-0 draw in this game, which is not a surprising prediction considering the stakes at play. United are three points ahead of Liverpool going into the game so a draw will suit them.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will likely play on the counter-attack, as Owen mentions, which could make for a very cagey affair if the home side also choose to play conservatively.

Whether Reds boss Jurgen Klopp will be happy with a point, though, it is difficult to predict. The German won’t want to go six points behind their rivals with a defeat but they have been known to go for the jugular in big games before. Which approach he will go for, we shall have to wait and see.
