‘That Will Be Tough’ Popular Pundit Questions If Liverpool Can Win The Premier League Title

Former Liverpool player and pundit Jamie Carragher has expressed his doubts on the Reds’ chances of picking up the Premier League title at the end of the 2023/24 season.

While Carragher was generally positive in his examination of Liverpool after their game with Brighton and Hove Albion, he still thinks there is work that needs to be done before they can become serious title challengers again.

Carragher believes that Liverpool will need to add a couple of players to their squad before they can mount a serious title challenge – namely, he thinks they need to bring in a midfield general and a defender.

What did Jamie Carragher say regarding Liverpool’s title chances?

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said: “Whether they can go on and win the biggest trophy which is the Premier League – I think that will be tough. I think that could be something Liverpool could go for next season with a couple more additions.

“I think Liverpool lack a top central midfield player and maybe another defender. Those gaps will be plugged – whether that is in January or in the summer. I think they will be better equipped next season to go for the Premier League [title].”

Can Liverpool still win the Premier League title this season?

To count Jurgen Klopp’s team out of the title race at such an early stage would be somewhat foolish – nevertheless, the Reds are noticeably behind their strongest rivals at this point.

Liverpool are currently fourth in the Premier League table on 17 points – of their eight league thus far, they have won five, drawn two and lost one. The clubs ahead of them in the division are Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur (in that order).

Moreover, their sole defeat (against Tottenham last weekend) came under controversial circumstances – so much so that several audience have called for the game to be replayed.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are still one of the top sides in the Premier League – even if their title chances look somewhat slim at this point in time. After the international break, they will play Everton – this will give them an excellent opportunity to make a statement.
