Scholes Delivers Verdict On Title Race As He Rates Liverpool, City And Chelsea’s Chances

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes believes Chelsea are still some way short of competing for the title following their 2-1 defeat to Wolves last night.

The Amazon Prime pundit says he still feels Liverpool and Manchester City are the two teams to beat and, although he admires some of the work that manager Frank Lampard has done at Chelsea, he feels their rivals are more equipped to finish at the top of the table:

“I think they are a really good team and I think what Frank has done has been excellent over last season and this. But I think they will fall a little bit short of Liverpool and Manchester City. I still think they are the teams to beat.”

With City drawing against West Brom yesterday evening, Liverpool have a big chance to put out a statement tonight when they face Tottenham at Anfield. They could go six points clear of Chelsea and eight clear of the Citizens, but getting a win will be a challenge against Jose Mourinho’s side.

Spurs’s strengths play into Liverpool’s weaknesses, with Mourinho likely to exploit the Reds’ defensive vulnerability on the counter-attack. A draw would not be a bad result for either side considering how other results have gone. However, a victory would be a real shot in the arm for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
