Steve Nicol Warns Liverpool Against Move For 23 Cap International As Reds Enter Transfer Battle With Two PL Rivals

Valencia midfielder Yunus Musah is not ready to play for a club like Liverpool, according to Reds legend Steve Nicol.

The former fullback turned pundit believes the 20-year-old still needs to improve the technical side of his game in order to make an impact at the Reds:

“He has had a good World Cup as far as the dirty side of the game, the running, the challenging, the winning the ball back. You could argue that Liverpool’s best team, they had three guys in the middle of the park that were really good at that. But no, I don’t think he’s close to [playing for] Liverpool yet.”

Chelsea and Musah’s former club Arsenal are also said to be scouting Musah, who has already been capped 23 times by the United States despite his young age.

As Nicol mentions, the midfielder has lots of energy and his mobility would make him a perfect fit for the Reds’ midfield, where he could do a similar job to what Georginio Wijnaldum used to do.

There are definitely legitimate questions to be asked, though, about Musah’s lack of experience. Although he would probably be more than willing to return to the UK, after growing up in this country, he may be better off staying put in Spain for another season or two.
