Two Liverpool Players Join Arsenal And City Stars In Garth Crooks’ Team Of The Week

BBC pundit Garth Crooks has named Liverpool pair Alisson Becker and Mo Salah in his Premier League ‘Team of The Week’.

Although Salah played a pivotal role in securing the three points away at Tottenham, by scoring a brace, Crooks reserved special praise for Alisson, who he believes is one of the top five best goalkeepers in the world:

“How refreshing it is to see a goalkeeper catch a ball in mid-air for a change. Most of them parry or punch but it was imperative on two occasions in the win at Tottenham that Alisson did neither but instead caught the ball with both hands as he descended to the ground.

“Anything less could have cost Liverpool the match. I rank the Brazilian among my top three keepers in the country and my top five in the world. Playing Spurs away was a tricky game for Liverpool but when you’ve got a keeper like Alisson between the sticks it makes life much easier. A top-class keeper if ever there was one.”

Alisson has undoubtedly been the Reds’ best player so far this season, although you could actually argue that he wasn’t at his best against Spurs yesterday. He flapped at a cross which he inadvertently diverted onto his own post but, as Crooks says, he’s always reliable in the key moments.

In terms of the rest of Crooks’ eleven, he went with a back three of Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier, Arsenal’s William Saliba and Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne. Brighton’s Adam Lallana, Leicester’s James Maddison. Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Leeds Crysencio Summerville were selected in midfield, while, up front, Salah was partnered with Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha and Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma.
