4 Liverpool Players Who Could Be Offloaded This Summer As Shakeup Commences

Anfield Stadium

Liverpool are unlikely to make many major purchases when the transfer window opens, with the global health crisis having hit the club’s finances.

However, the Reds may well use the opportunity to sell off some players who are not part of manager Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans.

There are certain stars who may well be replaced by younger and better talent, either through signings this summer, or through promotion from the club’s youth ranks.

So, which players are at risk of leaving Liverpool? Press the next page as we look at four possible departures:

Adam Lallana

The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the campaign, and he is expected to leave on a free transfer. His departure could well be delayed with football having been suspended but a new deal is said to be unlikely.

A whole host of Premier League clubs are said to be looking at Lallana, with Leicester, West Ham, Tottenham and Arsenal having all been mentioned as possible destinations.

Xherdan Shaqiri

The Swiss international has struggled with injury during his second season at Anfield, and when he was available, he was used sparingly by Klopp.

Shaqiri’s agent and brother Erdin has suggested that the winger could look to leave the Reds in the summer, although more discussions will be held before a decision is made:

“I think there will be many offers for Xherdan in the summer. Already in January there was concrete interest from two or three clubs. These – their names have already been taken up in various media – will knock again.”

“Xherdan’s situation in Liverpool is not easy because of several minor injuries that lasted longer than we thought. Jurgen Klopp is in talks with him about more game practice – we have to wait and see. I think Xherdan deserves a lot more. He was unlucky with his injuries, but every time he could play again, he did his job and changed the game.”

Loris Karius

The goalkeeper is set to return to Liverpool after a two-year loan spell at Besiktas, and while some have suggested that the German may be given another chance as the club’s second choice behind Alisson, his future is far from certain.

Karius could well have sealed a permanent switch away to Turkey if the finances were in place, and it’s likely that the Reds will be open to offers for the 26-year-old when the transfer window reopens.

Divock Origi

The Belgian international has already gone down in Anfield folklore for some crucial goals in a Reds shirt, but his performances this season having taken a notable dip.

Reports in Germany suggest Liverpool are very interested in signing Werder Bremen’s Milot Rashica whose position would suggest he would take Origi’s place as Sadio Mane’s understudy. With the likes of Napoli’s Dries Mertens having also been linked with a free transfer this summer, Origi’s future beyond the end of the campaign is in doubt.
