Five Things You Need To Know About Liverpool Target Talles Magno

Anfield Stadium

Vasco da Gama forward Talles Magno is being targeted by Liverpool, according to multiple reports in the Brazilian media, but he isn’t a player that fans in Europe will have heard much about.

He is an exciting, young player with a great future ahead of him, and the Reds are said to be in prime position to secure a potential deal.

Magno’s performances over the last year or so have courted attention from big European clubs so who is this promising talent?

Press the next page as we go through five things you need to know about the Brazilian teenage sensation.

He’s already a first-team regular at 17

Vasco da Gama gave him his senior debut at the age of just 16, making him the youngest debutant for the Brazilian club this century. He came on as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Botafogo in June last year.

Magno scored his first goal for the first team in a 2-0 victory against Sao Paulo last August as he became a regular first-team player before playing in the Under 17 World Cup.

Magno suffered a cruel blow at the Under 17 World Cup

The tournament was held in the forward’s home country of Brazil and he got off to a great start in the group stages, scoring two goals in three games.

However, after the 3-2 win over Chile in the round of 16, he picked up a hamstring injury which kept him out for the rest of the competition. Brazil went on to win against Mexico in the final.

He can play right across the front three

One of the things that would have attracted Liverpool to Magno is his flexibility to play anywhere in attack. For Brazil’s Under 17s, he generally played from the left-wing.

However, for Vasco, he has been employed by manager Vandelei Luxemburgo as a right-winger, a centre-forward and as a left-winger, despite only having played 17 senior matches.

Magno has flair and skill

The teenager has the Samba-style running through his veins, with his nickname ‘Magico’ being handed to him because of his quick feet.

Of course, he will need to curtail his flicks and tricks somewhat if he were to move to the Premier League, but he will definitely get Liverpool fans off their seats.

A £44m release clause but he could be sold for a lot less

Magno’s buyout fee of €50m isn’t really worth the paper it is written on as Vasco are going through financial difficulties and the Brazilian club are said to be prepared to sell to the highest bidder.

However, the Reds will face competition for the 17-year-old, with the likes of Benfica, Lazio, Roma and Juventus all said to be scouting the player.
