‘I’d Like To See…’ Former Liverpool Player Says Reds Should Sign These Two Midfielders

Former Liverpool midfielder Jermaine Pennant has named two top talents who he believes the Reds should bring on board in the upcoming January transfer window – Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram.

He believes that Liverpool need an ‘enforcer’ in their midfield and he think Kone would be an excellent player to fulfil this role. He also thinks the addition of Thuram would bring divdends, saying he has ‘always been a huge fan of his’.

Pennant played for Liverpool between the years of 2006 and 2009. During this period, he played in 55 Premier League games for the Reds, scoring three goals. Additionally, he also featured for teams such as Arsenal, Portsmouth and Leeds United over the course of his career.

What did Jermaine Pennant say regarding Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram?

Speaking to Lucky Block, Pennant said [via Lucky Block]: “I’d like to see Liverpool sign a proper enforcer in January. For me, that player would be Manu Kone. I think he would be a great number six and encourage [Alexis] Mac Allister to move further forward.

“Kone would be the icing on the cake, and so would Khephren Thuram – I’ve always been a huge fan of his. He may not play as a 6, but you could make it work. If we can get them in January, then we’re looking at a boss midfield!

“Those two could win Liverpool the Champions League. Having Kone and Thuram in there would elevate Liverpool’s midfield to being up there with the very best.

“Add in the forward five, and the likes of Virgil [van Dijk], Trent [Alexander-Arnold], and Alisson in the back, and that’s an unbelievable side.”

Would Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone bring Liverpool to the next level?

Both Kone and Thuram are both ideal midfielders to have in the modern Premier League – they are physical, hard working and are also incredibly technically sound.

Jurgen Klopp has improved the Reds’ midfield exponentially since last season – nevertheless, they are still somewhat lightweight in the middle of the park.

Kone and Thuram are 6ft 1 and 6ft 4, respectively – additionally, they are both just 22, meaning their best years are still well ahead of them.
