Liverpool Told They Still Have A “Chance” Of Hijacking Chelsea’s Move For 77M Rated Croatian Star

Liverpool could still have a “chance” of securing the services of RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, according to Bild journalist Christian Falk.

Chelsea are believed to be favourites for the Croatian international’s signature, while Manchester City and Manchester United have been mentioned as potential suitors too. However, Falk claims Jurgen Klopp’s side may also get involved in the battle for the centre-back:

“There’s a little, little chance that Liverpool can get this player [Gvardiol], I think he’s one of the most exciting players we have at the moment in the Bundesliga and he is doing very, very well.”

Gvardiol has recently mentioned that he was a boyhood Reds fan, which would certainly help if Liverpool do decide to go after the 20-year-old, but you do have to question whether pursuing the player would be a priority.

Firstly, his price tag is likely to be above €90m (£77m), as Chelsea had a similar bid rejected back in the summer. You would think that sort of money would be devoted to recruiting a midfielder instead.

Secondly, Gvardiol is left-footed so his best position would be where Virgil van Dijk plays. Unless he is seen as the Dutchman’s successor, there isn’t really any reason to invest a huge amount of money into signing the centre-half.
