“They Can Try…” Manager Makes 100M Price Tag Claim As Liverpool Are Linked With Bid For South American Star

Brighton manager Graham Potter has laughed off reports that Liverpool could sign Moises Caicedo for £42m.

The Ecuadorian international has been linked with a number of teams, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and West Ham, but Jurgen Klopp’s side are believed to be the club likeliest to make an offer for the player before the transfer window shuts. However, Potter says £42m would only be enough for Caicedo’s boots, suggesting the Seagulls have a much higher valuation of the midfielder:

‘In football, you never know, but we are quite calm and confident. You’d probably get his boots for that from the chairman – maybe! £100m? They can try. It doesn’t surprise me that people are looking at him because he is playing at a fantastic level. As soon as you do research on him you realise he is a top kid, great person, young, playing in the Premier League, has all the attributes to play at the very, very highest level.’

While some may dismiss Potter’s comments as bluster, it should be pointed out that Brighton did hold out for £62m when they sold Marc Cucurella to Chelsea. It’s, therefore, unlikely that they are bluffing when it comes to Caicedo.

The 20-year-old only moved to the Amex for £4.5m eighteen months ago, and it seems as though he won’t be leaving the south coast anytime soon going by the club’s stance on his asking price.
